My New Year’s Resolution Is to Be Less Miserable
Everything is awful but maybe I don’t have to feel terrible all the time?
In this new year, I resolve to be less miserable all the time.
Granted, some of this is outside of my control. Work can be a drag, assuming I am lucky enough to keep my job in 2021. I have been incredibly fortunate that none of my immediate family members have been impacted by COVID — hopefully, this will remain the case. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes but he’s finally started peeing in his box again and not on my one nice rug. My dog tweaked her back a week ago but she’s back to being the same mostly indestructible tank of goodwill I’ve known for six years.
So if life does not have other plans (HA HA), it is mostly up to me to not be the miserable, self-defeating bastard I’ve been for most of 2020.

OK, confession time — I did get much better at this in the waning months of 2020, but there is room for further improvement.
As someone who works remotely full-time now, I spend all day sitting in my bedroom/office staring at my computer screen. When I get off, I tend to play a video game for 30 minutes to an hour, prepare/eat dinner, then my wife and I take our dog for a walk…
